The Foundry is pleased to announced that Nuke 6.0 has been released and can be downloaded here. Nuke 6.0 has a completely new shape rotoscope and paint toolset, and includes Keylight as standard.
NukeX is incorporated in the Nuke download. The additional features are activated with a NukeX license key. Customers entitled to this upgrade have been emailed with their NukeX keys.

Armed with The Foundry’s Nuke compositing software, Image Engine was the lead VFX vendor on District 9 – the debut feature from director Neill Blomkamp. The Vancouver based VFX studio completed 311 shots on the film, which grossed $130m worldwide in its first five weeks. The quality of the work was such that Blomkamp declared, “Image Engine has done absolutely top tier, brilliant work that far exceeded my expectations. You can now download Nuke 5.1v6 from our website. This is a point release addressing the problems experienced by users after the Mac OSX 10.5.7 upgrade. This also fixes the known issue with EXRs on Windows XP64 with old AMD Opteron machines. It is a standard maintenance release, and available to anyone with valid maintenance. DOWNLOAD NOW. Physically based lighting for Benjamin Button

In the course of creating the Oscar-winning CG head for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Digital Domain’s compositors were challenged with seamlessly blending live action and CG. Lighting was particularly complex, as Benjamin is lit with candle light, full sunlight, and everything in between. Compositing Supervisor Paul Lambert will describe the HDR pipeline he built from on-set data that included more than 100 different HDR setups, and demonstrate the physically-based lighting tools developed to generate automatic, photo-real results.

Blue Sky Studios will present a short documentary film based upon the integration and evolution of Nuke on its latest feature “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs”. The film will showcase the development of a unique toolset which aided in the transition of compositing at Blue Sky from a mechanical “fix-it” methodology, to a considerably more creative one.
